When you think of how old you look, you don't typically consider your hands. Most people take a look at their face or their body and see a certain age. However, it's our hands that are revealing our secret - and sometimes they're telling lies! But why is it our hands reveal our age, or sometimes make us appear older?
Let’s look at why this might be happening to you!
Your Hands are Too Exposed.
Sun damage is one of the leading culprits in aging your skin. For people who do a lot of driving, UVA rays are able to pass through the glass on the windows, leaving your hands vulnerable even when you’re not outside. One of the telltale signs of sun damage is age spots, or discoloration. So what’s the solution? Well, similar to your face, you need to apply sunscreen regularly and diligently to your hands as well, to ensure they’re protected. Although it’s not always easy to do so, try to keep your hands in the shade when you can to reduce sun exposure as much as possible!
Your Soap is too Harsh.
People working in jobs that require frequent hand washing are often at a disadvantage when it comes to aging hands. Antibacterial hand soaps and sanitizers contain harsh chemicals and other ingredients that are often drying and hard on the hands. We are in no way suggesting you don’t wash your hands! But, we do suggest you regularly moisturize when possible and switch to a more hydrating soap, such as our Hand Cleansers.
You Live in Extreme Weather Conditions.
Both really hot and really cold weather conditions aren’t easy on your hands. To counteract the weather, people often turn on air conditioning or heating in their homes & offices - ultimately creating very dry air. The unfortunate result is dehydrated, scaly skin! An easy solution is to make sure you always keep your hands hydrated. Slip a Rehydration Cream or two in your purse to make sure you have hydration on the go! Try opening your windows in hot weather and putting on an extra layer when it’s cold to reduce the need for the air conditioning and heat to be on high.
You’re Not Making Hand Care a Priority.
We are quick to put every potion and lotion on our faces, but we don’t often put the same thought or effort into our hands. Our hands play a big part in how we communicate, work, cook, clean, and express ourselves - they’re an essential part of our daily lives. As a result, they get a lot of wear and tear. However, that wear and tear doesn’t have to be permanent. Daily hydration and weekly exfoliation is the key to youthful and radiant hands!
Age is inevitable, but your hands don’t have to age faster than you do. A little goes a long way with hand care. Keep your hands from spreading lies by taking care of them consistently and with the right products!
